Underfloor heating is one of the most efficient types of heating available, using less energy than a radiator based heating system. Heat pumps are more efficient at lower temperatures which makes underfloor heating the ideal choice of heat emitter for heat pumps.
How does it work?
Wet underfloor heating works by embedding plastic or MCLP pipe into the floor, water is pumped through at 35ºC to 45ºC with the flow of
water controlled at a manifold. With a heat pump as the main heat source, there is no need to mix water temperature down at the manifold, as the heat pump is more efficient at lower temperatures of 35ºC to 45ºC.
The advantages of Underfloor Heating
- With the room being heated from the floor and at a lower temperature, the room heats up more evenly giving a greater level of comfort.
- The temperature of each room controlled by separate room thermostat, with set back temperature option for during the night.
- No radiators fixed to walls making it easier to layout furniture and decorating in the future.
Consideration needs to be given to floor covering to ensure they do not reduce efficiency of system.
